ACTON - Emma Alexandra Franchek, 24, died suddenly on Monday, September 12, 2016 after a long struggle with addiction.

Emma was born in Boston on January 27, 1992, and raised in Sudbury. She graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School with the class of 2010. Emma was very creative and had a deep appreciation for art. She loved music, dance and enjoyed cooking, reading, napping and journaling. She danced in the Urban Nutcracker. She was very caring and thoughtful, always eager to help others and offered support and advice for anyone around her in need. Most of all, Emma loved her cats and her family.

Emma fought her addiction for years with the support of her family, her friends and many terrific community organizations. She did everything she knew how to do to get her life back but, in the end, the disease was too powerful. On August 9 Emma posted on Facebook "Life keeps throwing shit at me and I keep handling it like a grown woman. Gifts of recovery. So grateful for the people in my life who support and care about me."

A friend wrote "I love you Ems. I will never forget you. You were ray of sunshine in a dark time in my life. I'm thinking of you and your family who loved you endlessly. My heart is broken".

All our hearts are broken.

Emma is the beloved daughter of James S. Franchek and his partner, Carol L. Spence of Wayland, Dena Walters of Acton; step-daughter of Bud Blanchard; loving sister of Adelle A. Franchek and her partner Robert Pessolano of Brooklyn, NY, Nell E. Franchek of Newburyport. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

Visitation will be held Sunday, September 18th from 2-4PM at the Duckett- J. S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road (RT20), Sudbury.

A celebration of Emma's life will be held Sunday at 4PM at the funeral home. Interment at New Town Cemetery in Sudbury will be private.

In lieu of flowers, Emma's family asks that support be given and memorial contributions be sent to The Megan House Foundation, 32 Berry Road, Lowell, MA 01854.
